WAFL's best
|
by LES EVERETT
THE list of club fairest and best winners in the WAFL for 2003 paints an
interesting picture.
It's a very experienced group of players with East
Perth's Brent Cowell the youngest at 23 and includes a few former AFL players, a
couple of eastern state imports and some who began their careers in the country.
The winners were...
West Perth
Kim Rigoll a
30-year-old 100 game veteran who came to the Falcons from West Coast amateurs.
He's a solidly built midfielder who thrives on hard work. A dual premiership
player with West Perth, Rigoll won the club's fairest and best award in 1998 and
1999..
Subiaco
Marc Webb a 24-year-old who came to the Lions
from Perth. He's a hard running midfielder who kicks very well.
East
Perth
Brent Cowell a 23-year-old midfielder who played for Gippsland
Power in the TAC Cup and spent the 1998 and 1999 seasons on the St Kilda list. A
triple premiership player with East Perth.
Claremont
Greg
Harding a 26-year-old who came to the Tigers from Albany. He played AFL football
with Fremantle and West Coast. Used as key defender for Claremont in 2003.
Swan Districts
Shane Beros a 30-year-old midfielder who also won this year's Sandover Medal. A relative latecomer to footy
who came to Swans via West Coast amateurs.
South Fremantle
James Byrne a 25-year-old midfielder in his
first WAFL season. He played for Adelaide in the AFL and Glenelg in the SANFL.
East Fremantle
Wayne Roser a 30-year-old crash and bang
midfielder who has played more than 150 games since coming to the Sharks from
Augusta-Margaret River. A premiership player in 1998.
Perth
Chad Harding
A 24-year-old from Scarborough amateurs who plays in
defence and the midfield for the Demons. Has great pace.
Peel
Derek Hall
A 32-year-old originally from Harvey who began his WAFL career with West
Perth. Played a couple of games for West Coast but made his AFL name with
Geelong. Has announced his retirement as a player.
