New Carr for Fremantle
|
by LES EVERETT
FREMANTLE has become a two Carr team after some tough negotiating during the AFL
trade week in Melbourne which ended on Friday.
The Dockers traded draft
picks 11, 27 and 43 for Port Adelaide midfielder Josh Carr who will join his
brother Matthew at Fremantle Oval.
Josh played 105 games and kicked 60
goals for Power after being chosen at seven in the 1998 national draft.
The Carr brothers came to prominence as part of the powerful Corpus Christi
college teams in the mid-1990s and both played for East Fremantle as well as WA
junior representative teams.
Fremantle CEO Cameron Schwab told
australianrules.com.au the recruitment of the younger Carr had been a project 18
months in the making.
"We have a huge opinion of Josh as a player and a
person," Schwab said, "He's probably the perfect fit for our needs at this
stage."
Port Adelaide negotiators are very hard-nosed but Schwab felt
they made the trade out of respect for Josh Carr and his want to return home to
his family.
"Josh's experience of the disappointments and excitement of
the Port Adelaide thing over the past few years is going to make him an excellent
addition to our squad," Schwab said.
