Another derby wash-out
|
by LES EVERETT SOMETIMES it appears the WAFL can't take a trick.
It was a horrible day for footy at East Fremantle on Monday. Big Sharks

The first Fremantle
derby of the season was scheduled for Friday April 1 at Fremantle Oval.
It was a great idea. Balmy April night. Take in a cafe or a pub before or after
the game. Watch the footy under the stars. Perfect.
Of course it rained like
buggery and those who did go sheltered and shivered while South kicked 9.22 and
won by 4.19.
This week was the Foundation Day derby.
No AFL games on TV.
Fremantle fans looking for something to cheer them up. Sharks with nothing to
lose.
Of course it rained like buggery and a howling gale chilled the ground.
Incredibly about 4000 turned up and they sheltered and shivered.
The game pitted
the red hot Bulldogs and the stone cold Sharks and when David Gault won the toss
and indicated South would kick with the wind the game was effectively over.
Again
the Bulldogs were inaccurate. This time they won by 8.15.
Despite not being much
of a contest the game was hard fought and contained plenty of physical clashes.
Most of the highlights were provided by Daniel Gilmore who marked and kicked
brilliantly with his efforts into the breeze in the second quarter particularly
eye-catching.
The final derby for 2005 is on Friday August 5 at 7pm at Fremantle
Oval.
Don't wash the car.
By the way East Perth beat West Perth in the other derby.
