Finals time for Freoby LES EVERETTFREMANTLE has completed its nine game home and away winning sequence with the biggest victory of the lot.
All smiles as the Dockers head into the finals. Photo by Les Everett Saturday night's 87-point victory over Port Adelaide secured third spot for the Dockers and a meeting with Adelaide at Football Park on Saturday afternoon. Port started the game well kicking the first two goals and showing a willingness to take on Fremantle physically. However with Troy Cook in particular heavily involved in most of what was going on in the midfield the Dockers quickly took control. A three-goal second quarter from Matthew Pavlich in his 150th AFL game helped to put the game out of Port's reach by half time. Pavlich finished with five goals. Jeff Farmer also celebrated a milestone in style kicking six goals in his 100th game for Fremantle. However Ryan Crowley would probably get the nod for best-on-ground honours after a tireless display in the midfield that had a bit of everything - a couple of goals, some strong marks and 35 disposals. Now a whole new season begins - the finals - and coach Chris Connolly says he wants to see as much purple in Adelaide on Saturday as possible. Tickets can be booked by calling Bass Ticketing in Adelaide on 131 246 (cost of a local call). And with the finals in mind here's something to ponder. Jeff Farmer is the only current AFL player to have scored eight goals or more in a final and his average of 3.39 goals per final ranks him 19th among those who have scored 20 or more finals goals in the history of the VFL/AFL and first among current players. For those who can't get to Adelaide you can catch the game on the big screen at the South Fremantle Football Club with the Freo Mob and the atmosphere is always good at the Sail and Anchor. Bounce down 1pm. From the Fremantle Herald. 5 September 2006 australianrules.com.au |
