GRANT-LEE PHILLIPS nineteeneighties
by LES EVERETT
YOU may begin by thinking 'why?'. But after a few listens you'll be glad he did. Phillips has, as his latest project, put his spin on songs by the 1980s songwriters he likes. So you'll hear things like Under the Milky by Church, Boys Don't Cry by The Cure, So. Central Rain (Sorry) by REM and City of Refuge by Nick Cave in a new re-jigged rather than re-mixed kind of way. This would be great for dinner parties among a certain age group as people say: 'Isn't that...?'
