PETE STONE
Golden Frontier

by LES EVERETT

WHEN Pete Stone stepped away from his sometimes-raucous band The Assistance a couple of years ago he said it was because he wanted to do quieter things. He's kept that promise on his latest solo outing 'Golden Frontier'. It features Stone's musical collaborators Kate Kelly and Tony Lane with guests Ben Franz (double bass), Alex Archer (guitar) and Jean-Guy Le Mar (harmonica) in an all acoustic presentation. John Kilbey (brother of The Church's Steve) recorded and produced the album. It contains one cover, John Prine's 'Sam Stone', a song that fits well with the atmosphere of the originals. The highlight is 'Vacant Eye', a song dripping with latent power and enhanced by an amazing bit of guitar from Alex (Kill Devil Hills) Archer that just seems to tumble into the song. 'Golden Frontier' travels into some nice Western Australian landscapes and some dark places. Go to www.karmichit.com
