THE FAUVES Nervous Flashlights
by LES EVERETT
THEY'RE not quite TISM but there is a real playfulness in the lyrics of this impressive Melbourne outfit. Above all they're a really solid rock band. This time there's less of a political edge though the message to John Howard in I'll Work When I'm Dead shows where they're coming from. There's also an ode to David Coverdale (the very spunky singer who replaced Ian Gillan in Deep Purple for a while and sang on the albums Burn and Stormbringer). The Fauves have been around for a long time now (formed in 1988) and you could say this is their best effort yet. Well I can anyway because I haven't heard much else. It's worth checking www.thefauves.com where you'll learn the four-piece band contains one Melbourne, one Hawthorn and one Carlton supporter. The other bloke didn't say.
