Alone again or Calexico

A CHANGE of venue from the highly appropriate Gothic wonder of the Fremantle Arts Centre to Fremantle's Fly By Night Club did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd or the form of the band when Calexico came to WA on the first day of March.

Frontman Joey Burns struck a chord with sports fans in the audience with references to Perth's two AFL teams the Dockers, based in Fremantle, and the Eagles, greeted by boos. He also pointed out the Wildcats cap worn by band member Jacob Valenzuela. It wasn't the Perth Wildcats (National Basketball League) but an Arizona Wildcats cap. The Wildcat connection suggested a certain sympatico.

A great version of Love's 'Alone Again Or' was a particular stand-out in a show that hit the mark again and again.
