Five into four still wont go

by LES EVERETT

LAST week shook up the top four a bit but five teams are still pushing and shoving for places in the WA Sunday Football League top four with just two rounds to go.

Kenwick moved to the top of the ladder last Sunday with 44 points followed by Maddington 40, but with a much better perecentage, then comes Thornlie 40; Armadale 34; Gosnells 34; Tigers 8 and Kelmscott 0.

The road ahead is... Maddington: Gosnells and Tigers; Thornlie: Armadale and a bye; Kenwick: A bye and Armadale; Armadale: Thornlie and Kenwick; Gosnells: Maddington and Kelmscott.

In the finals or nothing race between Gosnells and Armadale the Hawks have the best draw with a match with winless Kelmscott in the last round.

That means the Demons must first hope Maddington beats Gosnells this week and win their tough last two games against Thornlie and Kenwick.

If Armadale makes the finals they'll deserve it and they'll be in very good form. They could even find themselves in the top two. Logic, however, points to Gosnells.

In the race for the top two Maddington is in the box seat as both Thornlie and Kenwick have a bye to come. The Bulls need to beat either the Hawks or the Tigers to wrap up a top two spot. The Lions must beat the Demons and then hope the Royals can't a week later.

It looks like Maddington and Kenwick in the second semi and Thornlie and Gosnells in the first. Let's hope for a surprise.

Think about this for instance. If both Armadale and Gosnells win their last two games and Maddington beats the Tigers in the last round the final ladder will be: Maddington, Kenwick, Armadale and Gosnells. That kinda makes this week's game pretty important for Thornlie doesn't it...

FOOTYNOTES MATCH OF THE DAY 1 - Thornlie vs Armadale. The Demons pulled out a big one a couple of weeks ago and this week they have to do it again. It's a must win game for both teams. The Lions have been clearly superior this year with wins by 44 points in round six and 52 in round 14.

MATCH OF THE DAY 2 - Gosnells vs Maddington. The Bulls have been on top for most of the year and must win this to ensure they end up there. A win for the Hawks would just about wrap up a finals spot. Maddington have had little trouble with Gosnells this year winning by 45 points in round seven and 49 in round 15.

ANOTHER BILLSON DOUBLE - Young Gosnells forward Daniel Billson backed up for his fourth league game last week kicking four goals against the Tigers after earlier scoring nine in the colts game against Kenwick. Billson has kicked 91 goals in 15 colts games this season and 16 for the league team. It has been quite an unusual century.
