All bets are off

by LES EVERETT

EARLY in Mark Lee's film The Bet we get a clear view of what is going to be its big problem.

Bad acting.

Young hotshots Will (Matthew Newton) and blue-blood Angus (Aden Young) have a bet. The one who makes the most money in the next 90 days gets $100,000 from the other.

What follows is some highly unconvincing insider trading, a highly unconvincing sex scene featuring Will and his hotshot lawyer girlfriend Tory (Sibylla Budd) and an highly unconvincing fight scene.

It's hard to imagine who would care about these characters even if the acting was good.
