Two tons in Central Vicby RICHARD JONESELMORE'S Ryan Hayes and Pyramid Hill's Matthew Chilcott have become the first full-forwards in central Victoria to top the magical 100-goal milestone this season. Hayes bagged four goals in the Heathcote and District League's top-of-the-table clash with Colbinabbin last Saturday. That took his tally to 103 for the season after he had fallen agonisingly one major short in Round 16 at North Bendigo. He went into last weekend's match on 99 but made sure of his "ton" early on. The HDFL will play the 18th and final home-and-away round this Saturday with Elmore scheduled to play the Lockington-Bamawm United Cats at Lockington. Elmore and Colbinabbin head up the HDFL ladder on 60 premiership points apiece, followed by Mount Pleasant (52), White Hills (40) and Broadford (36). The Heathcote Saints (36) can still make the finals, but need to beat Huntly by a huge margin and hope they can pass either the Hillies or Broadford on percentage. Those latter two clubs meet in Round 18 at Broadford. Meanwhile at Bridgewaterwith the visiting Pyramid Hill Bulldogs needing to win to clinch fifth spot and a berth in the elimination final, Chilcott slotted home three majors to slip past the "ton". His second in the first quarter brought up the 100 - he now has 101 for the season. The Bulldogs led 8.5 to 5.10 at half-time and added eight goals to the Mean Machine's seven to win by 21 points and hold onto fifth position. The result leaves the same two clubs poised to fight out Sunday's sudden death elimination final at Newbridge. Bridgewater finished fourth in the Loddon Valley Football League's top five and Pyramid Hill fifth. Newbridge, Calivil United and Mitiamo fill the top three spots. 24 August 2007 |
