Falcons into the four

EAST PERTH'S stay in the WAFL top four was shortlived. In round 19 the Royals looked anything but finals contenders in going down by 110 points to top team Subiaco. An eight-goal to none second quarter set things up for the Lions and this time there was to be no second half comeback. East Perth kicked their second goal 24 minutes into the third quarter when Nick Kane sneaked away from the back line and found some space in attack.

Subiaco had 15 goal scorers and their work at centre bounce downs was outstanding. Allistair Pickett was in brilliant form, Chris Hall, who didn't kick a goal, was busy in the midfield and Mark Nicoski kicked three long goals in a strong performance. Luke Webster was clearly East Perth's best player.

West Perth moved into fourth place after a hard-fought eight-point win over Perth at home. Josh Pearce was the best of the Falcons and Kane Ransted kicked seven goals for the Demons.

Claremont remain just a game behind Subiaco in second place after beating a gallant East Fremantle by 13 points. Rory Walton was Claremont's best player and Mitch Morton kicked three goals. Leith Teakle and Andrew Foster performed well for the Sharks.

Garth Taylor was the star in Swan Districts' 12-point win over Peel at Bassendean. Matt Battye kicked for goals for Thunder.

The ladder: Subiaco 56; Claremont 52; South Fremantle 40; West Perth 36; East Perth 36; East Fremantle 24; Swan Districts 24; Peel 16; Perth 12.
