Tigers to the top

CLAREMONT has gone to the top of the WAFL ladder and is almost certain to host the second semi final. On Saturday the Tigers thrashed East Perth by 78 points with Daniel Bandy again outstanding and Mitch Morton and Anthony Jones each kicking four goals.

East Fremantle gave themselves the hope of a finals spot by beating Swaqn Districts by 17 points at Bassendean. Rhys Palmer kicked five goals for the Sharks.

South Fremantle secured a place in the finals with a 16-point win over West Perth at Arena Joondalup. Paul Mugambwa played his best game for the Bulldogs and finished with three goals. West Perth led by 37 points early in the third quarter.

Perth will take the wooden spoon after losing the fight for the bottom with Peel at Rushton Park. Thunder won by 17 points after leading all day. Hayden Ballantyne and Dean Buszan each kicked four goals.

It's the final round of home and away fixtures next week. East Perth must beat Swan Districts at home to retain fourth place. If the Royals lose they will be replaced in the four by the winner of the game between East Fremantle and West Perth at East Fremantle Oval. In the other games Claremont plays Peel and Subiaco meets Perth.

The ladder: Claremont 64; Subiaco 60; South Fremantle 44; East Perth 40; West Perth 36; East Fremantle 36; Swan Districts 32; Peel 20; Perth 12.
