WAFL fairest and best 2007ALL The WAFL clubs have announced their fairest and best award winners for 2007 and there will be some new coaches to examine next season. Here's some of the latest... Subiaco: Brad Smith won the Outridge Medal after a comeback season that produced 126 goals. Premiership coach Scott Watters remains. Claremont: Jaxon Crabb won the Cook Medal. Coach Ashley Prescott has headed to Essendon and he hasn't yet been replaced. South Fremantle: Kris Miller, who crossed from East Fremantle this year, won the Hughes Medal. He won the Lynn Medal at the Sharks in 2005. John Dimmer will continue as coach. East Perth: Frank Agostino's brilliant season in defence earned him the Book Medal. (It didn't get him a spot in the State team.) He went down with a knee injury early in the first semi final and will miss most of the 2008 season. Glen Bewick had a successful first season as coach and will continue. West Perth: Dion Fleay won the Breckler Medal. Fleay, who came to the Falcons from South Fremantle in 2004, also won the award last year. Todd Curley will again coach West Perth in 2008. East Fremantle: In a strange twist the Lynn Medal was won by Theo Adams who came from South Fremantle in a 'swap' with Kris Miller and Tim Maslseed. The big news at the Sharks is the appointment of 2000 Brownlow Medal winner Shane Woewodin as coach replaing David Dunbar. Swan Districts: The Swan Medal went to 20-year-old Luke Miles who is a good chance to be drafted into the AFL. The Swans were coached by Steve Turner and Chris Lewis in 2007. Brian Dawson will do the job in 2008. Peel: Former Docker Daniel Haines won the Tuckey Medal. Chris Waterman remains as coach and is confident about the coming year. Perth: North Ballarat recruit Jarrod McCorkell won the Butcher Medal. Simon Eastaugh will remain as coach and in a major move the Demons have appointed fitness coach Matt Barber who at Subiaco during the last two premiership years. 19 October 2007 |
