Good crowds for derby day

by LES EVERETT

IT was Foundation Day derby time in the WAFL but there were no surprises. At Fremantle Oval South Fremantle beat East Fremantle by 29 points in an entertaining game. Scores were level midway through the third quarter but the Bulldogs took over and went to the break 31 points up. The plucky Sharks came back again the last quarter before South steadied. Ryan Murphy kicked six goals for the Bulldogs, Kyle Hams was strong in defence, Paul Mugambwa and Simon O'Keefe also played well. Calib Mourish kicked three goals in a good effort for East Fremantle and Liam Anthony again showed good signs.

East Perth managed just four goals in the Perth derby and went down by 65 points to West Perth. Mark Seaby kicked three goals for the Falcons.

Subiaco maintained their unbeaten record and defeated Claremont by 49 points.

In the Saturday game Perth beat Peel by 43 points in terrible conditions at Rushton Park. Seamus Young kicked four goals and Mark Johnson three for the Demons and Ross Young continued his good form.

The ladder: Subiaco 40; Perth 26; Swan Districts 24; South Fremantle 24; West Perth 22; Peel 16; Claremont 8; East Fremantle 8; East Perth 8.
