Royals off the bottom

by LES EVERETT

A CROWD of around 4,000 turned up at Lathlain Park to see Perth continue their journey towards a rare finals appearance but East Perth spoiled the party. The Royals won by eight points with the return of Frank Agostino after a knee reconstruction a big factor. Captain Michael Swan kicked three goals in an important performance and Craig Glancy and Brent Cowell also played well. Ross Young was outstanding for the Demons, Troy Cook continued his good form and Steven Armstrong kicked three goals.

Swan Districts moved to second place after a 31-point win over Claremont in the Sunday game. Chris Yarran kicked six goals for the Swans and Michael Warren was good for the Tigers.

Peel pulled off their third narrow win of the season when they hung on to beat South Fremantle by two points at Rushton Park. Thunder led by 34 points early in the last quarter. Hayden Ballantyne kicked five goals in another fine effort for Peel and Brock O'Brien was in top form. Kris Miller and Josh Head were good for the Bulldogs.

Top team Subiaco had another big win this time by 86 points over East Fremantle. Daniel Rich was outstanding and kicked four goals.

The ladder: Subiaco 44; Swan Districts 28; Perth 26; South Fremantle 24; West Perth 22; Peel 20; East Perth 8; Claremont 8; East Fremantle 8.

Next week: East Fremantle vs Peel; West Perth vs South Fremantle; Swan Districts vs Subiaco; East Perth vs Claremont.
