WAFL ladder shake upby LES EVERETTTWO teams dropped out of the WAFL top four after round five. Perth, who moved to second place after a bye last week, were thrashed by top team Subiaco by 64 points and dropped to sixth place while Claremont moved from fourth to fifth. At Leederville Oval South Fremantle kicked the first seven goals against East Perth and really that was that. The Royals made good use of the strong breeze in the second quarter and fought bravely into it in the third but gifted a goal via a 50 metre penalty 10 minutes into the third and the Bulldogs took over again. The run of Hayden North, Toby McGrath, in his 150th game, and Kyle Hams was a key for South while Ryan Murhpy kicked six goals and Josh Head delivered the ball nicley from the back line. Chris Tarrant kicked two goals and was a useful player for the Royals. In the Friday night game Swan Districts led by nearly eight goals in the third quarter and then held on as West Perth fought back. Swans won by five points. Josh Roberts made a timely return for Swan Districts and Jeff Garlett kicked three goals. Adam Campbell kicked five goals and led the fightback by the Falcons and Kepler Bradley kicked four. Peel pulled off its second consecutive narrow victory when it beat Claremont by two points. Hayden Ballantyne kicked four goals for the Thunder and Ian Richardson got six for the Tigers. Brad Smith kicked six goals in Subiaco's big win over Perth and Daniel Rich was again outstanding. Troy Cook was Perth's best player. Next week: Swan Districts vs Perth, East Fremantle vs East Perth, Claremont vs South Fremantle, Subiaco vs West Perth. The ladder: Subiaco 20; South Fremantle 12; Swan Districts 12; Peel 12; Claremont 8; Perth 8; West Perth 4; East Perth 4; East Fremantle 0. 21 April 2008 If you'd like to comment on this story email us and we'll put your contribution on our new-look letters & comments page. |
