The axe falls twice on Tarrant

by LES EVERETT

LET me begin with a disclaimer. I hope Fremantle's Chris Tarrant finds form and is part of a revival for the Dockers in 2008. He was terribly out of touch in rounds one and two, missed round three and was a bit unfortunate last week when he began ok against Richmond then smacked heads with his mate Dean Solomon.

Tarrant has been dropped from Fremantle's team to play Adelaide and will probably line up with East Perth at Leederville Oval. I intend to be there to cheer him on and hope he helps the Royals beat South Fremantle.

A banner headline in The West Australian on Friday read Dockers dump Tarrant and a photo of him in a superimposed East Perth jumper was splashed across the back page of the daily newspaper. Earlier in the week Fremantle coach Mark Harvey said Tarrant was yet another victim of the local football media hell-bent on running him out of town.

Right, now I'll get to the exceedingly lowbrow and irrelevant point. Regular readers will know there's more than one high profile Chris Tarrant in the world...Tarrant on top of the world.

Ongoing research has revealed something else about the Brit Chris Tarrant. Last year he hosted another TV program. It was called The Great Pretender. It was axed in January: "We tried it out but it didn't work," said an ITV spokesperson.
