Rising star nominee round 13...
WA is just about assured of winning the 2009 AFL 18s title and that should assure another rich harvest of draftees. The value of looking west has been well illustrated in this year's batch of NAB AFL Rising Star nominees. Daniel Rich (Subiaco), Stephen Hill (West Perth), Garry Moss (East Perth) and Brad Dick (East Fremantle) have been put forward so far.
The nomination for round 13 another former East Perth player, Tayte Pears from Essendon, Two other WA youngsters stood out in the round too – Liam Anthony (East Fremantle) and Nic Naitanui (Swan Districts) so the list should grow.
Pears was taken at 23 in the 2007 draft and made his AFL debut in round four last year. This year he's played all 13 games and has taken on some big jobs as a key defender. Last week he took on and ran off Brendan Fevlola in his best game yet.
Pears comes from Manjimup and played juniors with the famous Deanmill Football Club that counts John Todd among its products.
