Scoreboard Spotswood

July 01, 2009
By Vin Maskell

Two-faced scoreboard...

THE Spotswood scoreboard is a double-sided fortress, servicing two grounds. Scoreboard attendants and timekeepers have an uninterrupted, and secure, view of the action. The grounds are at the very start of Westgate Bridge, so the umpire's whistle has to be shrill enough to pierce the constant traffic noise. South Melbourne's 1955 Brownlow Medallist Fred Goldsmith played for Spotswood but he wouldn't haved gazed upon such a solid scoreboard as this.  The Western Bulldogs' Callan Ward played junior footy for the green and gold Woodsmen, a very strong club in Melbourne's western suburbs.
