The first elimination final...
ESSENDON are the first team to depart from the final eight after Adelaide did what was expected and thrashed their undermanned opponents in the first elimination final.
The Bombers played bravely early and went to the first break just a goal down. However a prolific second quarter from the Crows effectively put an end the season for the Bombers.
Andrew McLeod played in premierships for Adelaide in 1997 and 1998 and was awarded the Norm Smith Medal as the best player on the ground both times. On Friday night he gathered the ball expertly and used is precisely.
The Crows now sit ready to taken on anyone and anything.
Bernie Vince was great at the clearances, Ivan Maric took advantage of Essendon's lack of real ruckmen and Jason Porplyzia finished with five goals.
Adam McPhee kicked four goals for the Bombers and Cale Hooker played well on the big stage and was the reason his team was in the game for as they long as they were.
One interesting side issue was the difficulty the Adelaide crowd had telling apart Nathan Lovett-Murray (who might have done something to Vince) and Andrew Lovett, who got booed for the rest on the game along with his cousin.
Five teams have shown they're capable of winning this competition.
Adelaide 26.10 (166) Essendon 10.10 (70).
