The finals wash-up
THE great players turn it on during the finals and that was perfectly illustrated this weekend.
On Friday night it was Andrew McLeod...

Adelaide 26.10 (166) Essnedon 10.10 (70).
Gary Ablett jumped up on Saturday afternoon. http://australianrules.com.au/news/471/78/There-s-life-left-in-Cats-and-Dogs
Geelong 14.12 (96) Western Bulldogs 12.10 (82).
A decision on whether Simon Black would play in the elimination final at the Gabba was made an hour or so before the game. There's something wrong with his hamstring and he didn't quite look right on the night. But Black is beautiful and his performance helped keep Brisbane in the game and he was right in the thick of things when they made their incredible comeback. You could make a pretty good case for Black as the best AFL player of the 2000s if you were interested in such an exercise.
Brisbane 16.15 (111) Carlton 15.14 (104).
Today at the MCG Nick Riewoldt marked and kicked brillianty and, as is his way, ran his opponents into the ground. The St Kilda captain kicked five goals on a day goals were hard to find.
St Kilda 12.8 (80) Collingwood 7.10 (52).
Next Friday night the Western Bulldogs will play Brisbane and on Saturday night it's Collingwood and Adelaide. The means Adelaide, who finished fifth, get an eight day break while the fourth placed Collingwood have six days to prepare. Wouldn't it be funny if the Magpies complained about fixturing. Both semi finals are at the MCG.
