That was very pathetic Pakistan

January 07, 2010
By Les Everett

Some observations following the second Test between Australia and Pakistan at the SCG...

1. Kamran Akmal. If the man of the match award went to the player who most influenced the result of the game then surely the Pakistan wicketkeeper was the man. The image that will stick with me from this game is Kamran admonishing a fieldsman for a slightly off-line return just a ball or so after he dropped Michael Hussey for the THIRD time.
2. Mohammed Yousuf. It’s no use going on about his tactics on the last day but he approached the situation like someone who had never played the game before. Mr Captain you had good bowlers bowling well and you showed no faith in them. Yousuf described his shot in the second innings as “very pathetic” which was a good analysis. Actually Pakistan’s lack of cricket in recent years could explain a lot of what happened in their second innings.
3. Shane Watson. He doesn’t look like an opening batsman and that’s thrown people. Truth is he hasn’t put a foot wrong since replacing Phil Hughes in England in what has been a selection masterstroke. He’s also a graceless idiot on the field who goes looking for trouble where usually there is none. He’s in great form and should be happy with himself but no; he just expresses himself by being an embarrassing dickhead with no respect for his opponents.
4. Brad Haddin. Please Channel Nine and ABC Radio, no more interviews with the wicketkeeper. He seems to be the go-to man but he’s boring and ungracious. But at least he can catch. Nathan Hauritz has the ability to be self-deprecating... talk to him.
5. Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting. They say you make your own luck. Deep down both these gentlemen know that the hands of Kamran Akmal made... 1. Hussey a second innings comeback hero; and 2. Ponting’s decision to bat look good. Lucky boys.
6.  It’s important to Australia that they continue to play opponents who spend no time preparing for three Test series. It’s nice to be almost certain of being one up. Those concerned about competitive cricket might like to suggest a change however.
7.    Pakistan have two outstanding young players... Umar Akmal and Mohammad Aamer but politics, of the cricketing and other types, will mean their team is unlikely to ever be any good.
