Has the Song List Rat gone too far this time? The Rat goes for a ride with British Sea Power...
british sea power came they saw they got sunburned and they conquered with small trees and pot plants. and who in their right mind would not be conquered by british sea power? nick cave may be the only one as he once saw them in a cafe in brighton but felt they weren't cool enough for him to talk to them. their show at beck's music box starts with the six piece ripping right in with soaring guitars and great harmonies. but then three guitars a viola a trumpet and drums aren't enough and they launch into' lights out for the darker side' with four guitars going full pelt. its fantastic stuff. soon after yan directs then leads a disheveled hamilton to the main mike for three songs the last 'no lucifer' is a beauty and brings chants of easy easy easy from those dancing in the front row. this prompts hamilton to take off his gum leaf crown and throw it in the audience and then follow up with a few small trees. by now noble is playing his guitar out in the audience either standing up or lying supine on the ground. the rat offers him a human step up back onto the stage but noble just sits on the rat's back and rides him for a full song. now the band are doing cartwheels and handstands and the odd shoulder ride. but they never miss a beat. hamilton is carried horizontal around the crowd. noble has now given his guitar to a punter who dutifully plays the cords noble showed him. the music soars on high with the sounds of seabirds screeching. noble then dons a crash helmet and begins the final assault hurling pot plants at the crowd and volleying them back again when they are returned with equal venom. the only disappointment of the night was that there was no on stage wrestling. bsp will never become mainstream but if they continue as they did tonight the mainstream will come to bsp.
