Scoreboard Manuka

May 19, 2010
By Vin Maskell

Canberra's MCG scoreboard...

ONCE upon a time this scoreboard could tell you so much about a Test match. And with no need of computers or LCD screens or the like.
Once upon a time this scoreboard conveyed VFL football scores from around the grounds and race results from Melbourne's metropolitan courses.
Once upon a time this was the Melbourne Cricket Ground scoreboard. You would read it as you would read the game. You would look up and know that the details would always be there, not replaced momentarily by noisy flashy advertisements for beer and betting.
Fortunately, when the digital electronic age of scoreboards arrived the classic MCG scoreboard was not knocked down or left to rot. It's now part of Canberra's Manuka Oval and for the round eight game between the Bulldogs and the Swans it told the story of the game in simple, stark figures.
