On the road again...

MY learner driver son needed to rack up some hours on the road. I needed to get away from the mid-week desk and check out some scoreboards. We headed west from Melbourne and popped into Rockbank (red corrugated iron scoreboard), Bacchus Marsh (whatever happened to the solid steel scoreboard that was there two years ago? Now there's just an elevated tin shed that looks like it fell off the back of a Bunnings truck) Trentham (black steel against a backdrop of pine trees), Hepburn Springs (a big tin shed called "Laurie's Castle"), Daylesford (junior ground of Western Bulldogs great Chris Grant), and finally Ballan (a forward pocket scoreboard if ever there was one).
The Ballan ground is very well protected by pine trees, like Trentham, and like Winchelsea further west (which father and son visited on another L-plate excursion).
Ballan plays in the Central Highlands league, against the likes of Hepburn Springs, Bungaree, Buninyong, Creswick and Clunes. Ballan beat Clunes last weekend by six goals.
