Qualifying final Geelong vs St Kilda...
ALL the talk after the Saints beat the Cats in the qualifying final was about the Cameron Mooney-Ling moment. But there were others.
Contrary to reports Geelong started the better in this game and would have skipped to a handy first-quarter lead but for a missed mark with players on up the ground by Joel Corey. After that key moment St Kilda took control and kicked behinds for a long time before they started kicking Cat bums.
The big Saint forwards Nick Reiwoldt (for a long time) and Justin Koschitzke (for, as usual, a little while) proved too much for the super Geelong defenders and at one stage the lead was five goals. For the first time in at least four seasons Matthew Scarlett looked like an ordinary player and the Cats seemed strangely slow.
Just when it seemed an era was ending the rain came down and Geelong came to life and for a long long moment the Saints were dormant. This was a great game. Both teams looked strong. Each team looked vulnerable.
